More than 10,000 cyclists are expected to participate in the 42nd Annual El Tour de Tucson on Saturday, November 22. The event will feature routes that pass through Southern Arizona, including the Town of Sahuarita.
Organizers say the event is meant to celebrate community, endurance, and the landscape of the Sonoran Desert. Visitors from across the country are anticipated.
To accommodate the large number of riders and ensure safety for both participants and residents, several temporary road and ramp closures will be in effect throughout the day. Key closures include:
– I-19 & Sahuarita Road Interchange from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
– I-19 & Continental Road Interchange from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
– Continental Road between CPAC and Duval Mine Road from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
– Mission Road between Duval Mine Road and Helmet Peak Road from 9:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.
Flaggers will be present at designated areas to help direct traffic.
The Town advises residents to plan ahead for these changes and allow extra travel time during the event. Organizers note that such events demonstrate “the vitality of Southern Arizona.”
