Roadhouse Cinemas has announced plans to open a new luxury theater in the Town of Sahuarita, marking an expansion for the Arizona-based company. The new venue will occupy the site of the former Desert Sky Cinema and is expected to undergo significant renovations to meet Roadhouse Cinemas’ standards.

“Roadhouse Cinemas is known for bringing a high-end, comfortable, and fun movie-going experience to communities across Arizona,” said Mayor Tom Murphy. “We’re proud to see this exciting investment in Sahuarita’s future and to welcome a company that shares our values of quality, community, and innovation.”

Renovation work has already begun at the location. The updated theater will include features such as luxury recliners, chef-driven food options, a full bar with local craft beers, Roadhouse’s signature gourmet white popcorns, Keg Root Beer, gelato, push-button seat-side service, as well as modern laser projection and digital sound systems. The company aims to maintain its focus on hospitality tailored to the local community.

Victor Gonzales, Director of Economic Development & Public Affairs for Sahuarita, acknowledged contributions from partners involved in making the project possible. “We’re grateful to our longtime partner Gary Heinfeld for helping make this opportunity possible,” Gonzales said. “Roadhouse Cinemas will not only revitalize a key location in our community but also enhance our entertainment offerings and create new jobs for residents. This is exactly the kind of quality investment we strive to attract.”

The project team includes members from Roadhouse Cinemas—Scott Cassell, Josh Snider, and Roger Badenhuizen—who are collaborating with Heinfeld and town officials during the transition.

“This community is thriving, and we look forward to becoming part of its growth,” said Snider.

Roadhouse plans to invest approximately $1.5 million in remodeling the 18,000-square-foot theater so that it matches experiences offered at its other locations in Tucson and Colorado Springs.

Mayor Murphy added: “Roadhouse has earned a stellar reputation for creating spaces where people gather, connect, and enjoy time together. We couldn’t be happier to have these Roadhouse roadies joining our town.”
