On November 1, around 9:00 PM, the Sahuarita Police Department (SPD) assisted the Tucson Police Department following a vehicle pursuit that stemmed from a carjacking incident in Tucson. The chase ended on south Old Nogales Highway, south of Pima Mine Road. After running the stolen vehicle off to the east side of Nogales Highway, the suspect fled eastbound into nearby pecan groves.

Law enforcement deployed resources including a helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in an attempt to locate the suspect for several hours but were not successful.

Initial reports described the suspect as a possible white male in his 20s or 30s, wearing a black or dark t-shirt, blue jeans, and black and white tennis shoes. He was reported to be armed with a handgun. Later updates revised the description: “Officers who saw the suspect described a lighter skin black male, thin, and wearing a red shirt.”

Authorities noted that it is possible someone picked up the suspect and he left the area; however, there is also concern he may have remained hidden overnight and could try to leave during daylight hours.

Residents are advised to remain alert for suspicious activity and report any sightings by calling 911. The SPD cautioned against picking up hitchhikers or strangers. “As always, the SPD does not recommend picking up hitchhikers or strangers.”
