Looking for temporary employment? The U.S. Census Bureau may have a place for you.
The bureau is looking to hire 57,000 workers in Arizona alone to assist with the 2020 census. This is only a fraction of the 500,000 workers needed nationwide to fill roles as census takers, clerical workers and outreach recruiters.
“The census is gearing up to do what we do best, and that’s counting everyone in America once,” Tammy Parise, the Census Bureau’s partnership coordinator for Arizona, told AZ Central.
Parise said thousands have applied already and they are on track to fill all positions.
There are some incentives to becoming a temporary worker for the Census Bureau. Pay varies by position and county, but ranges from $14.50 to $19.50 an hour, and wages are paid weekly. Mileage and transportation expenses for field workers will be reimbursed. Some of these positions also offer flexible hours.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens, fluent in English and able to pass a background check. Most of the available positions are for enumerators, people who go door to door to interview people. Those with Spanish-speaking ability are highly sought after as well.
