A border wall project worth $1.28 billion was awarded to a North Dakota company that the Arizona Daily Star claims is favored by President Donald Trump, the news agency reported.
Fisher Sand and Gravel was awarded the project on May 6 by the Army Corps of Engineers. Fisher has an office in Tempe, according to the news agency. The $1.28 billion will be used to build approximately 42 miles of the border wall that will run from Nogales to the boundary of the Tohono O'odham Nation, the news agency reported.
The Washington Post reported last year that Trump favored the company and urged the Army Corps of Engineers to award wall contracts to it even though the initial designs Fisher provided were not up to federal standards, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
The Army Corps of Engineers claims that procurement laws were followed in this project, as well as a previous project Fisher was awarded, the news agency reported.
