Construction for the City of Tucson's Downtown Links Improvement Project that includes a new four-lane road and a railroad underpass for pedestrian, bicyclists and motorist is now underway.
Phase three of the project began Aug. 24 per a contract between the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM) and Downtown Links Constructors (DLC), according to a city press release.
The project is slated to take 30 months and will include a new four-lane road that will connect Barraza-Aviation Parkway to I-10 and a railroad underpass at Sixth Street and Ninth Avenue, according to the city's release. The city also stated the project will also include multi-use paths, sidewalk improvements, drainage systems, bike lanes and public art.
Travelers in the project area will face scheduled temporary and permanent road closures with Sixth and Seventh Avenue remaining temporarily open, according to the city. East and westbound traffic on Sixth Street will not be effected by the construction.
