Northern Arizona University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 11.
Earning his second preseason All-American honor of the summer, senior kicker Luis Aguilar landed on the 2021 HERO Sports FCS Preseason All-American Second Team Wednesday morning.
It's Aguilar's third career All-American Honor from Hero Sports, having been named as a first teamer following the 2019 season and again a first team honoree in the 2020 preseason. Entering his final season with the Lumberjacks, Wednesday's announcement marks six career preseason All-American honors for Aguilar and 16 All-American honors overall.
Aguilar is one of 23 Big Sky Conference players named to the three teams released by Hero Sports from 10 programs in the conference.
Playing in four games during the spring, Aguilar hit nine of the 10 field goals he attempted while connecting on all eight of his extra points. Entering the fall with 64 consecutive made extra points, Aguilar is just 13 more away from tying Micky Penaflor's program record of 77 set between 1987 and 1989.
Hitting 83-of-84 extra points in his career, Aguilar currently holds Northern Arizona's program record and sits atop the FCS among players with at least 84 attempts.
Connecting on his last 20 field goals in the Walkup Skydome, Aguilar made all four in the spring, all 15 in 2019 and his final attempt at home during the 2018 season. During his career, Aguilar has connected on 23 of 24 field goals inside the Skydome, leading to a career total of 81.4 percent on field goals to rank fifth among active FCS kickers and hold the current program record.
\Aguilar is within reach of Robbie Dehaze's program record of 302 career kicking points scored, set between 2005 and 2008. Finishing the spring at 188 points so far in his Lumberjack career, Aguilar trails Dehaze's mark by 114. During his breakout 2019 season, Aguilar scored a program-record 118 points to rank second in the FCS among kickers and 10th among all players.
