Mayor and Council of Tucson voted 4-3 to support the termination of over 50 firefighters and paramedics

Meeting 08

Tucson Fire Fighters Association issued the following announcement on Oct. 20.

Mayor and Council of Tucson voted 4-3 to support the termination of over 50 firefighters and paramedics.  The Tucson Fire Department is already facing incredible staffing shortages and are currently staffing our rigs every day with mandatory call backs. Terminating 53 firefighters will inevitably lead to the closing of emergency response vehicles and possibly the closing of Fire Stations. This directly impacts our firefighters response capabilities and will lead to an increase in response times.

The ultimate risk of terminating firefighters falls to the community of Tucson we so proudly serve.  We will continue to urge our City Leadership to come to the table to work with ALL labor groups.

We would like to thank Council Members Nikki Lee, Richard Fimbres, and Paul Cunningham for their courageous vote in support of our first responders.

Please help us in fighting for our community and the firefighters who have so bravely served on the frontlines throughout this pandemic keeping our beloved Tucson safe.

Remember, the Council works for you, the CITIZENS OF TUCSON.  Please contact your elected official today and let them know you will not support the termination of essential City workers.
