Arizona Posts 49.225 on Beam in Home Opener

University of Arizona Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 22.

The GymCats finished fourth in a quad meet with Oklahoma, Stanford, and Utah State. Oklahoma won with a 197.900, Utah State came in second with a 196.350, Stanford finished third with a 195.725, and Arizona scored a 193.775.

Freshmen Alysen Fears and Emily Mueller made their debuts in the all-around. Mueller earned a 39.075 and Fears posted a 38.500.

Gymnast of the Meet – Emily Mueller

Mueller earned her first Gymnast of the Meet honor following her all-around debut. The freshman posted a 9.800 on vault, 9.700 on bars, 9.825 on beam, and 9.750 on floor.

Vault

The GymCats opened the meet on vault with a 48.650. Mueller earned a career high 9.800 in the leadoff spot for Arizona. Caroline Herry scored a career high 9.775.

Uneven Bars

On bars, Arizona earned a 47.000. Elena Deets earned a season high 9.825, the highest score on bars for Arizona this season. Bailey McCabe followed Deets with a 9.775.

Balance Beam

The GymCats competed on beam in the third rotation, earning a season-best 49.225. Deets and Mueller made their beam debuts. Fears opened the rotation with a 9.775, followed by Deets and Mueller who each scored 9.825. Jessica Castles earned a season high 9.875 and Sirena Linton anchored with a career best 9.925. Linton finished in a tie for second place on the event.

Floor Exercise

In the final rotation, Arizona posted a 48.900 on floor. Fears made her floor debut and earned a 9.850. Mueller and Herry posted career bests of 9.750 and 9.875, respectively. Herry's 9.875 was good for a fifth place finish.
